Garmin zumo 660 GPS 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Motorcycle Navigator

Garmin zumo 660 gps

Currently, there are many motorcycle GPS systems that have been released. Some of those have more advanced features, while some are more convenient to use. Consequently, different devices have received different feedback from their users. In this review, we shall see how the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS performs, and whether it is worth your while to install it on your ride.

Let us look first at the design. The Garmin Zumo 660 GPS measures 5.3 inches by 3.3 inches, with a thickness of 0.9 inches and weight of 9.5 oz. In comparison to others, the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS is a bit heavier. However, it allows for a 4.3 inch TFT display, which is bigger than others and presents a clear picture, though not really designed for bright, direct sunlight. As for the buttons, they are large and easy to operate with gloves, which is perfect for motorcycle use. With regard to style, it looks symmetrical and simple, with silver and black colors, together with clean lines that should fit any motorcycle.

Then let us look at the mapping. The Garmin Zumo 660 GPS features a good basic map, complete with nearby landmarks, restaurants and gas stations. It also includes easy to read directions and 3D buildings to further help with orientation. However, it has received a mixed set of feedback here, particularly with its inputting and updates. People have encountered problems with long and foreign names, and confusing directions because of non-existent roads, even with the latest maps. However, for major thoroughfares and road names, the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS performed well.

Then we must look at the hardiness of the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS. It comes with a hard plastic cover, designed to be capped on top of it while not in use during a ride. It also meets the same standards as its predecessor, the 550, which was tested against IPx7 criteria. This means it can withstand water immersion at a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes long. In combination with its recessed screen, and sturdy looking mounts, the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS seems satisfactory.

And while other people may look at the bells and whistles of most GPS devices, it can be said that passing the three aspects mentioned above meant that this device will perform to your needs. Of course, you can always avail of Bluetooth technology, Traffic Message Channel, photo viewing and others if you like. However, if what you want is a solid GPS unit to get you from point A to B, then the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS is a good way to start.
